Another Mirror to Work On

I always wanted one of these mirrors with the applied corners that extend out from the corners of the frame. I think they were typical of New York, and while they look great, if the mirror is off the wall and left standing on edge, they are susceptible to damage. These survived but there is damage to the amazing projecting elements (that look like they came off the front bumpers of a 1950's Buick). Already disassembled for storage until I get a chance to work on this one.

Too Many Books?

I saw a book for sale, but wasn't sure if I already had a copy. I had a book database years ago, but it couldn't transfer to new computer, and it went by the wayside. So, I thought it was time to start over. I try to keep to reference books only, and even at that, am up to almost 400, just from the shelves. I still have to catalog the ones in storage. I think it would have been easier to just buy the book - especially since no copy of it has turned up  in my collection.

Clearing the Jungle

With one sunny day before the rains settle in for a while, I cleaned out the area shown in http://forthillstudios.blogspot.com/2012/05/garden-time.html. As my "Christmas tree" grows, I will cut down some of the surrounding trees.

Garden time

The warm, rainy weather has made it a jungle out there. Some things, such as the rhododendron out back are magnificent, and the foxglove at the edge of the weed-filled garden look good. But there is a corner of the driveway where the weeds have gone wild - can you see the five-foot balsam hiding in there?

Peonies

It seems that the peonies here are in beautiful bloom for a short time, and always when either we are away, or we have downpours that flatten them. This year was able to pick some (although I can never remember what time of day to do this in order to avoid bringing in the ants that live on them).

New House in Wiscasset

I had posted before about a house that disappeared (well, got torn down) - http://forthillstudios.blogspot.com/2011/09/wasnt-there-house-here.html. I suspected someone either wanted their view improved, or a new house. It looks like they may now have both.

On our first visit back to Wiscasset this season, a new house is almost complete, and is a nice fit into the streetscape.

Danvers Meeting of HSEAD

We are now back from the annual meeting of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (www.hsead.org) in Danvers, MA. While there, our newsletter editor, Diane Tanerillo, took this photo of me with her iPhone - not bad, if I do say so myself.
